Fit those parking sensors first though. JohnS3Dec 24, I'm beginning to wonder if Fesss bought a rolling chassis from the factory and is building his own A3! TwizzlerDec 24, Makes you wonder!

Has anyone done this to there A3? TDI-lineDec 24, Perfectly possible to do but not easy or cheap. You'll need the mirror control switch that has the fold option and you will need to run wiring from this switch out to each mirror housing. Seen this done on a few A4's so it can be achieved. Have you finished any of your retro-fits yet?

Or you just building an A3 from the wheels up!! Issac HuntDec 24, DandleDec 24, Was wondering this myself - just about to do a search. But was kind of hoping that the wiring loom was already in - Oh well never mind - will just have to keep folding the mirror on to fit in the garage. NHNAug 31, Hey just wondering rough costs for this on a A3? Also how do the mirrors fold. Are they just inwards or upwards.

Seen a few threads on here and also researched on line.

Have seen some components and full kits knocking around. Got my 8V arriving soon 14 plate and it's the only thing missing I really wanted.

May not be worth it but any advice would be much appreciated. Sent from my SM-T using Tapatalk. RLAug 20, NHNAug 20, Hi, I have a pair of folding mirror bodies which I bought from Audi, in their original boxes, had them fitted to my S3 for 18 months.

I've also got the mirror switch, optics and door plastic molding to fit. Toonsoldier91 and jungle like this.

Last edited: Aug 20, Very straightforward to do. TAug 20, SchizophonicRob2k68DJAlix and 2 others like this. I want this on my car, I'd be interested in hearing how much to do it. SchizophonicAug 22, RLAug 22, Completed this retrofit today. Great help and advice on here! Does anyone have the coding to set the mirrors to fold on a long press of the lock button rather than every press of the lock button? An option not available to use here in NA but certainly one that can be done.

I don't think there was anything cooler than completing this install and seeing the mirrors fold for the first time. This isn't the cheapest mod out there but probably not the most expensive either. This is pretty well a plug and play install with a little bit of coding needed to activate the folding mirrors. I would be fairly confident for the A5 models though as they very seldom stray to far from the A4.

Here is a picture of the new trim with window switches moved over and mirror switch installed. I have door trim clips listed because you could break one or two taking the door panel off. I highly recommend you buy a few just in case. Nothing worse than holding up your install because of a broken clip. You may not need them but it's cheap insurance. The trim tools are very handy but aren't necessary. I recommend you pick up a set from ECS Tuning though the next time they have them in stock.

Their set is much better than what I have been using and cheaper. I know where I'm going for my next set. You can find them here. The left and ride side are the same for disassembly and reassembly, the only difference being the work on the door panel to install the new trim and switch.

It was still below during most of the install so I tried to do the best I could taking pictures. Never easy in a cold climate. I would rate this as a 4 on the install hardness scale and a on the PITA scale just for getting the cover off of the mirror. You will spend more time on that than any other part of the install. Once you go the first door done you should be able to do the second door in about 10 min's or less. Over all install time if you work at it straight should be hours with taking your time and small breaks.

The install will concentrate on the drivers door since there is switch work to be done but pictures may come from either side for general assembly.

So lets get started. I used a trim removal tool to start but any thin item you can slide behind the trim will work including a slot screwdriver, just be careful not to damage your door.

Once you have popped the first clip you can use your hand to pop up the rest of the trim. The trim removes towards the outside of the door once it's unclipped.

It slide under the door handle slightly so don't just pull it straight out. There are also direction clips that hold the trim in place as you can see by the last trim picture. There are 3 push in clips, 2 hooks and the slide in tabs in the end.

There is a small hole in the trim near the outer edge. Using Audi's instructions you are to put a screwdriver in the hole and pry the trim off.

Once the end is popped off you can just pull the rest of the trim off by hand. You have to start at the door edge because of the way the clips go on or you will damage them. Not to worry it's not a delicate part just don't go against the instructions. Place a screwdriver up into the hole vertically and pull straight towards yourself. As you can see by the picture below there is only one real clip, the rest are just little plastic burs that will pull out fairly easily once the main clip has been pulled out. With years of experience in modifying and upgrading cars to an exceptionally high standard we accept nothing less than the best for your Audi or VW.

Imteyaz From West Midlands. Yep, Ash definitely knows his ish! I should have listened to him when he recoded my stereo to make the Aux-in work and the fader option reappear. But I got scared and told him to put the coding back to how it was. Turns out he was right, and when I did the same coding again myself everything started to work. Top marks for Audi Retrofits! Power folding mirror retro fit completed chasdrury Jul 7, It's a very easy DIY: You need New door control modules for each side - part numbers Drivers side: 8E2 Passenger side: 8E2 It seems modules with 'E' at the end will also work - but definately not ones with 'B' at the end. You need a new mirror switch that has 4 positions - the 4th position is to turn them in. The old control modules are 3 screws and pull off. Once the speaker is out you can access the wire all the way through the door upto the mirror - uncrew the old mirror base and replace with new mirror and push cable down through door and into new control module.

WIth the door card off you can access the switch on teh armrest and unscrew and replace with the new one. That's it - no wiring, no coding it just works! SmoothAssault likes this. Good work. I want to do this to mine in the future. MJul 7, Nice one, did you take any pictures to add into your guide?

TurksterJul 8, PM me if you interested. Maybe I've missed it but I don't recall anyone mentioning the door grab handle where the switch is mounted.
